Multi award-winning designer Tom Dixon is one of Britain’s most recognisable contemporary designers, known for his innovative spirit and commitment to creating "extraordinary objects". Established in 2002, the Tom Dixon name has become known around the globe for producing original design. Drawing on the UK’s industrial heritage, Tom Dixon uses pioneering techniques and unconventional materials to redefine modern luxury.
All designs are developed at the Coal Office studio in Kings Cross, London, where research, prototyping and material testing sit at the centre of the brand’s approach. The result is a collection of innovative and contemporary designs that merge art with function. His sculptural lighting, bold furniture and striking homeware have a slightly futuristic feel, mixing industrial accents with modern forms and innovative technology.
Tom Dixon rose to prominence in the mid-1980s as a maverick, self-taught designer known for his "welded salvage" furniture. His career reached a turning point with the design of the ‘S’ Chair for the Italian brand Cappellini – a piece that propelled him to the forefront of the international design world.
Following a successful tenure as Creative Director at Habitat in the late 1990s, Dixon was awarded an OBE in 2001. His influence has since extended into landscape and interior architecture, notably winning Designer of the Year 2014 at Maison & Objet, Paris and earning a silver medal for "Best Garden" at the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show. Most recently, Tom Dixon won Designer of the Year 2021 in Elle Decoration’s British Design Awards.
Why Choose Tom Dixon Design?
To own a Tom Dixon design is to invest in a piece of British design history. His lighting, furniture and homeware designs create focal points in the interiors and outdoor spaces that cannot be replicated. By blending historical industrial methods with 21st-century technology, the brand continues to create an ever-growing portfolio of objects that are as durable as they are decorative. Whilst they appear distinctive and sculptural, Tom Dixon designs last for decades and have everyday living at their heart.
