Robin Day (1915 - 2010) grew up in High Wycombe, after graduating from the Royal College of Art in London his dream was to become a furniture designer but unfortunately this had to be put on hold due to the outbreak of World War II.

In 1948, Day submitted an application to take part in the New York Museum of Modern Art competition which was looking for Low-Cost Furniture. The advert spoke to Day's democratic approach to design and he entered with his friend Clive Latimer. Their plywood storage system not only won first place but kickstarted Day's furniture career.

A project for the Festival of Britain in 1951 which included room-sets for the Homes and Garden Pavilon which showcased his RFH Lounge and Dining Chairs - both now available as part of the &Tradition collection listed at Holloways of Ludlow
