At Holloways of Ludlow, we believe great design is at its best when seen in real homes. Our Inside the Home of series explores how creators and tastemakers use our furniture, lighting and homeware to shape their own spaces. Each feature inspires by showing how people can live with, style, and enjoy iconic pieces every day.

For this instalment of “Inside the home of” we take a look round the home of Nicola Capper, founder of Nordic Notes and a long-time advocate of Scandinavian and Nordic inspired design. Nicola’s interior is calm, modern and effortlessly cohesive; the perfect setting to showcase the Northern Snowball Portable Floor Light and Northern Snowball Portable Table Lamp. Styled within her living space, the two lights demonstrate how thoughtful lighting can enhance both the atmosphere and functionality of a space.

Nicola’s home is a masterclass in modern Scandi living. Soft grey tones, natural wood and clean-lined furniture create a relaxed backdrop, while carefully chosen accessories add warmth and personality. There’s a strong sense of balance throughout the space. She has created a space that is minimal without feeling stark and welcoming without excess. Every element feels intentional, allowing design-led pieces to stand out naturally, without showing off.

Oslo-based Northern designed the Snowball as a modern take on the classic Bauhaus lamp, brought up to date with delicate and streamlined proportions. It comes in two sizes: a tall floor light and matching smaller table lamp. Both sit comfortably within Nicola’s living room, adding delicate sculptural interest without disrupting the calm aesthetic. Nicola has chosen the lamps in Grey Beige; a calming colourway that fits seamlessly within her decor.

Defined by their soft, spherical shades and slender bases, both lamps provide a gentle and diffused glow that doesn’t take up much visual weight. Their portable design makes them especially versatile, allowing Nicola to move them easily between spaces as the mood or moment calls for it. Used together, the two lights create a layered lighting scheme that creates continuity and feels visually refined.

What makes Nicola’s styling so effective is its simplicity. The Northern Snowball lights are placed alongside modern furniture and subtle textures, letting their form and soft illumination do the work. In a similar interior, these lights would work beautifully next to a sofa or armchair.

Their understated design means they complement a wide range of décor schemes, particularly neutral and Scandinavian inspired interiors, where light plays a central role in shaping the space.

Nicola’s home shows how considered lighting can transform everyday living. The Snowball Portable Floor Light and Table Lamp by Northern bring warmth, flexibility and contemporary elegance to her space, without taking over or competing for attention. In keeping with Scandinavian design principals, this is an interior that proves good design doesn’t need to shout to be noticed.
