Richard Sapper

German industrial designer, Richard Sapper (1932-2015) was considered one of the most important designers of his generation. Starting his career at the design department of Mercedes-Benz, he moved to Milan in 1958 to further his career. From creating the Static clock for Lorenz in 1960 to designing IBM's leading laptop line in the early 1990s, Sapper worked across disciplines to create the best of the best. His Tizio Lamp for Artemide, designed in 1972, was the first lamp for domestic use to use a halogen bulb. Its unique design meant that for the first time no cables were required as the low voltage current carried along the conducting arms of the lamp powered the bulb.
