Bill Curry
Creator of the iconic Stemlite lamp, William "Bill" Curry was an American designer associated with the mid-century modern movement. A graduate of the Los Angeles Art Center, Curry ultimately founded his own home furnishings company, and had his work selected as a model example of quality American design by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Credited with originating the first total look in a lamp form, Curry eliminated the base-plus-shade concept to redesign the lamp by exploiting the bare bulb. Then he went a step further: reshaping the bulb to shape the lamp as an integral unit.
